Snappy Tom

Taking a break from game design. Which was good for taking a break from music.

Through some half finished recordings I begin some kind of ‘tiki’ aspect which is more style guide than inspiration – it attempts to confine the music to a certain range. The recordings aren’t bad… just uptight. I must encourage them to loosen. I think there will be an album some time.

But before we can go much further I’m plunged back into the 1980s.

Long ago I recorded a cassette I called Snappy Carrion. It was grungy and messy – just a bunch of demos. Unfortunately people here there and everywhere have copies – the time has come to regain control of the music by making an official LP.

We (Ian Andrews, Penny Courtney et. al.) have collected a few versions of this tape. Some are poor quality, some not awful. I’m pretty good at forensic restoration so the sound’s not bad – but a few more copies are still coming into play. This will definitely be the next LP.

Worse problem is something called Media Jingles. If you find a copy of this advertised online BEWARE it leads to a virus install on your computer. Not my doing. David Chesworth found a copy in Melbourne that I had sent to him back in the day. It doesn’t correspond to the track listing made by online “owners” but it’s definitely the right material – and my track listings were often a prank. This will likely come back into circulation once Snappy Carrion is delivered.

Barbara

Acknowledging that the Barbara Island albums were prototypes for this Hauntiki thing I am considering how to raise their importance in my catalogue. They are still available as a four piece set on Bandcamp in surround sound. But I think often of cleaning up their visuals.

The first had a very primitive long form of beaches. Later editions had a few more organised videos. But I’d love to make a more Wagnerian effort – and do I dare to break the rules of four albums every four years? Having missed some of those years? How do I excuse myself? Do I rip the shit out of it or worship it? Does anyone give a flying fuck?

Probably not.

But I’m aware that I have a recognition well after the mission. Maybe I just do what makes me happy.
